Ed Veal: Staying Healthy, Staying Home

What was your main athletic focus prior to COVID-19 actions?

After the track was prepared, Ed rode 736 km in 24 hrs!
I was full gas getting ready for the USA CRIT series. I was actually in Birmingham Alabama for the season opener when all of this broke out and course they event was cancelled. I would say the main focus would be racing the tandem with Lowell Taylor at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Understand you may not have a definitive competition schedule at the moment, how are you approaching your training now?

Well with everything completely off the table indefinitely I have decided to really crank up the volume and off the bike strength work. Improve my endurance and work on lifting a little bit of weight, increasing my squat.

What positives, if any, can you take from our situation with respect to your training and being best prepared for a return to competition?

So lucky to have the indoor cycling platform Zwift to train on. Also really great full to have a small space here at the house to do my gym work.

How has your training benefitted your mental state as we Canadians maintain social distancing?

Very very much! I routinely call my training bike therapy. It has helped me get through many hard situations throughout the years and continues to help me get through this challenge. Exercises is magical. I can’t imagine my mental state without it.

Any other comments?

I love Infinit products! I can’t imagine my physical or mental state without them ;)

This weekend, actually starting at 6 pm, tonight Friday, April 24th, Ed will be attempting to break the 1000 km barrier on Zwift during the Crush Covid event.  Follow along on our Instagram feed to see how he does.

Good luck Ed!
