Garrick Loewen: Staying Healthy, Staying Home

What was your main athletic focus prior to COVID-19 actions?

Long course triathlon (Ironman 70.3)

Understand you may not have a definitive competition schedule at the moment, how are you approaching your training now? 

I'm using this time to focus on improving my weaknesses and build myself up to being a more complete athlete. I'm also taking a laid back approach to training and not stressing about hitting performance standards in every workout but rather just getting the work done.

What positives, if any, can you take from our situation with respect to your training and being best prepared for a return to competition?

I do believe that this is a good time for people to realize that this sport is part of a healthy lifestyle and we can have fun with it without stressing about completing a specific race distance or hitting time standards. 

How has your training benefited your mental state as we Canadians maintain social distancing?

Being able to wake up every morning with a purpose and knowing that even though I may be restricted in what I can do every day and my overall freedoms I can still strive for self improvement in a multitude of facets.
