vEveresting - 80 Year Old Andrew Gustafson Tackles 10 K This Weekend - Saturday Feb 6th

Those that participated in last week's vEveresting rides may know that Andrew had to abort his ride due to a failed KickR - not surprised he wore it out frankly.  So Andrew is ready to go, on another trainer, he will be tackling the 10 000 m this weekend on the Alpe Du Zwift course.

I personally really wanted to be part of his ride last week, you see Andrew just turned 80 a couple of weeks ago and he will be the oldest to complete this challenge.  I find this both, incredible and inspiring.  With that we are trying to give him some company.  Of course with Everesting it is all about your pace, so Andrew is going to put his head down and do his own thing - I have reviewed some of his previous rides and corresponded with him a bit - 1:30 is an average time up for him, his descents are 12 min.  Andrew will not be communicating while riding, he will be focusing on his effort, but he would certainly be aware if we were riding around him, he would see our names and be encouraged.  As you know it is hard to know what is going to happen on the day, Andrew will give his all - we know that he is starting at 9:30 am PST, that is 12:30 pm EST (my time), 5:30 pm GMT (UK) and 7:30 pm CAT (South Africa) - if things go close to plan for Andrew he would be riding through to around 3:30 am his time.  You can use the chart below to pick at time to ride a lap with Andrew - if you can.

The table above is based on previous times for his 6 ascent ride and then the expected times to get climb laps 7 - 10 with a potential 30 minute break after lap 6.  Or course nothing is cast in stone - just to give an idea on when you might want to check in and join Andrew.

I personally plan on being there for the first lap and hoping to join on the last lap.  As I follow Andrew in Zwift, I will just go into Road to Sky and select the option to ride with Andrew each time, should plop me right there along side of him.  I will add to my profile name on Saturday - it will be Darcy GO ANDREW GO!

Congrats again on your achievements last weekend.  Hoping you are enjoying a lower volume week.

Last point - I reached out to Andy at Hells the Everesting site and he indicated that he expected to have all the rides confirmed by Friday of this week - as you know there were more than normal!

Ok Last point really - Good Luck Andrew!!
